What's your teaching style?

As each of the 7.9 Billion people on Earth is different, so is each teacher's pedagogy. A pedagogy is personal to the developer and is influenced by one's life experiences. Admired by many, the great Aristotle was known for presenting information to his pupil and his way of thinking. There have been many profound contributors to education, none of which had a more profound impact than Aristotle.

Not much of his work was left behind, but little was a well-respected scholar. After studying the philosophies of Aristotle, the philosophical pioneer of education, there were three critical elements of his teachings that have helped shape the author's educational philosophy. First, Aristotle believed in learning through exploration. He believed in the well-balanced individual and his ability to ask thought-provoking questions (Kenny, 2001). In modern earn learning, that would be the equivalent of Project-Based Learning and social-emotional awareness. When individuals combine those two elements into their teaching, they become more holistic in their methodology.

His growth mindset allowed him to have a broad perspective on many topics and was not concerned with being controversial. Aristotle pushed the limits of education and the process of Learning (Kelly, 2001). As teachers aspire to embody similar characteristics, many have participated in Courageous Conversation training and have held conversations on equity in the school system. Hopefully, one day, we can bridge the equity gap in schools and provide underprivileged students with the necessary tools to succeed.

Aristotle had a clear life philosophy; his concerns were ethical and political. Political views systems from the idea that the political community or state is a creation of nature before the individual who lives within it. He made general claims using his logic and observations (Kelly, 2001).

Project-Based Learning is a method of learning used today that would make Aristotle proud. Similar to Plato, Aristotle believed individuals should be all around balanced. Learning develops through life's activities. Because he saw himself as a holistic educator, he broke learning into three categories theoretical, practical, and technical. (Aristotle, 2021) A balance between life experiences and schooling will teach an individual a critical element of success. The elements of Project-Based Learning include sustained inquiry, reflection, public product, critique and revision, and student voice and choice. These elements make students more independent thinkers while building fundamental knowledge, understanding, and success skills.

After years of study, Aristotle came up with the concept of reason. He was the first to develop the formal system of reasoning. Aristotle once said, "Deductive validity" is determined by its stricture rather than its content." (Aristotle, 2021). The most impactful takeaway of Aristotle's philosophies was his work ethic and some of his physical accomplishments. He tutored Alexander the Great for seven years and eventually created a school.

That is why Lovie has established a tutoring company assisting struggling learning in gaining academic success, and she will have a school doing the same thing. Hopefully, it will not take as long as Aristotle because he and many other greats have already paved the way.
